Biomethane

Natural gas is a fossil fuel with UK supplies originating from the North Sea and European gas fields. Biomethane is a renewable form of natural gas, derived from the anaerobic digestion of organic waste products such as farm slurry and food waste.

Both natural gas and biomethane can be used to power gas buses. These buses are equipped with a spark ignition engine and store compressed natural gas or biomethane in tanks on the roof of the vehicle.

The WTW GHG emission savings for biomethane buses, certified under the LEB accreditation, are 82% compared to an equivalent Euro V diesel bus.
