Van WLTP Market Preparation & LEVG promotion

The UK has c4.1 million licensed light goods vehicles, up 25% in a decade. UK data indicates vans are responsible for 33% of road transport nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) and approximately 19 million tonnes CO2 per year. LowCVP revised its Low Emission Van Guide in April 2019 to raise awareness about the range of low and ultra -low emission vans on the market, their business and environmental case.

The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) is a new global regulation for measuring the level of air pollutants, CO2 emissions and energy consumption in light duty vehicles, including vans. applicable from September 2019. Whilst performance is unaffected, WLTP will result in a higher g/km CO2 value for a specific vehicle compared to NEDC, due to greater rigor and inclusion of realistic data. New vans will also be subject to a more stringent compliance regime, known as RDE (for Real Driving Emissions). The RDE test measures vehicle pollutants, such as NOx and complements the WLTP laboratory test. Raising awareness amongst van operators and retailers of the move to WLTP is essential to encourage purchase of the lowest CO2 emission vans.
