Background
The Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trial (LEFT) involves a wide selection of alternative technologies being assessed both in-service and through a dedicated, laboratory-based emissions testing programme, under a £20 million government programme to cut emissions from road freight and improve air quality.
The competition is being delivered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Innovate UK. TRL Ltd is the lead delivery contractor, carrying out data collection and analysis of the performance, cost savings and environmental impacts of the trial vehicles to evidence impact. The initial activity in 2018 was to update the government’s evidence base on the emissions performance of gas-powered vehicles, and later other vehicle technologies, to inform the Treasury’s review of fuel duties.
LowCVP’s role in this project is to provide technical guidance and support to TRL, on behalf of Innovate UK, in the planning and delivery of the emissions testing programme.
Objectives
- To provide technical and delivery support for the LEFT programme focusing on test methodologies, instrumentation, test vehicle and diesel Euro VI comparator selection, data processing and results presentation.
- To present vehicle emission testing result summaries to industry and government
