New research by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) finds that better understanding of the running costs and total costs of vehicle ownership on the part of private car buyers could significantly boost the market for cleaner, low carbon vehicles. The work was carried out as part of a collaboration with the finance and leasing sector to highlight potential savings.

The first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) retrofit solution for conventional heavy goods vehicles has been accredited under the UK’s Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS), ahead of the introduction of Clean Air Zones in Birmingham and Leeds in 2020. 

As electric vehicles start to become mainstream and the contribution of renewable energy to the electricity grid grows, by 2030 over 70% of CO2 emissions from typical new road vehicles could arise during the production – rather than use – phase of the life cycle of a typical vehicle.

Partnership also announces new, comprehensive work programme to lay the foundations and build evidence base for progress.

To coincide with National Clean Air Day, the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) has published a Clean Vehicle Retrofit Technology Guide to highlight the role that the wide range of retrofit technologies can play in improving air quality by cleaning up the existing vehicle fleet.
