Zemo's 'Moving to Zero' moves to Bangor to showcase how to decarbonise Wales' truck sector

Zemo's latest event in a series of Moving to Zero | Symud i Sero events in collaboration with Welsh Government brought together fleet operators, energy networks, charging and infrastructure providers and local stakeholders for a well-attended and lively event in Bangor, North Wales. The event - focusing on 'smart depots', infrastructure readiness and future fleet composition - explored a range of key issues, using an interactive format to help stakeholders formulate how best to decarbonise commercial vehicles in Wales.
The event brought together industry leaders from the likes of National Grid, Drax Electric Vehicles, SP Energy Networks, Octopus Energy, Lloyds Banking Group, Siemens eMobility and DAF Trucks.
It took place in Bangor, part of a vital transit corridor for commercial vehicles, especially those using Holyhead for travel to Ireland
It explored how to:
Design future-ready depots for mixed fleets
Align project, grid and investment timelines
Deliver real-world solutions for heavy-duty fleets, particularly HGVs
Over 50% of the companies present in the room were new to the Moving to Zero programme, reinforcing the momentum that this project is building in bringing stakeholders from across the industry and Wales to help build out the policies that will be vital in decarbonising commercial vehicles.
Speakers at the event included Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper MS.
'Moving to Zero' is an initiative between the Welsh Government and Zemo Partnership to focus on how to implement the recommendations from earlier work by Zemo, which culminated in the presentation of a report to the Welsh Government in March 2025.
The new project will implement a ‘no regrets’ package of measures to deliver the short-to-medium-term decarbonisation of the commercial vehicle sector in Wales, including trucks and vans.
