Zemo Partnership's Head of Sustainability, Gloria Esposito, has been recognised for her contribution to the renewable fuels agenda at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Gaydon Motor Museum in Warwickshire.

The GreenFleet Awards are held annually to celebrate and recognise clean fleet innovation in more than 20 separate categories. Gloria received a special award as 'AFV Champion' for her leading role in the sustainable, low carbon fuels agenda.

Gloria has been responsible for establishing the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS) which aims to tackle one of the key barriers to renewable fuels uptake by verifying claims made by renewable fuel suppliers to commercial vehicle operators about their product’s greenhouse gas emission savings and the provenance of raw material feedstocks. To date sixteen renewable fuel suppliers have been approved under the scheme, supplying biomethane, renewable hydrogen, biodiesel and HVO.

The RFAS originated from a study on 'Market Opportunities to Decarbonise HDVs'. Arising from this work, the fuels team - which Gloria leads - has also made proposals for the introduction of a UK Renewable Diesel incentive. A project to recognise 'Renewables Fuels Champions' is also in development.

The Zemo team, in collaboration with Zemo's Fuels Working Group, has a remit to explore measures to increase the adoption of sustainable low carbon fuels such as biofuels and renewable hydrogen.

During the last year or so, Zemo's team has also published a series of reports investigating the life cycle GHG emission, and energy demand, of different hydrogen production pathways. This work has fed into various Government consultation responses related to hydrogen and low carbon fuels.
