The competition to help accelerate the zero emission powered light vehicles (PLV) market in the UK, launched at the Cenex-LCV 2022 Event at UTAC-Millbrook in early September closes for entries on Monday 17 October (5pm).

Managed by the Niche Vehicle Network, the Zero Emission Powered Light Vehicles (PLV) Feasibility Studies Competition is now open for applications.

Sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT) and supported by Zemo Partnership, the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), and Innovate UK, the competition provides grant funding of up to £35,000 to undertake three-month duration desktop research and/or preliminary investigation activities aimed at supporting the accelerated development of innovative vehicle technologies applicable to road going zero emission powered light vehicles (PLV). Officially referred to as ‘L-Category’ vehicles, these encompass motorbikes, trikes and quadricycle vehicle types.

This competition focuses on accelerating the development of new on-road zero emission powered light vehicles and/or solutions to deliver increased zero emission PLV vehicle range. The competition is open to UK-registered micro and SME companies active in the niche vehicle technology sector, including niche vehicle manufacturers, system suppliers and design/engineering or technology organisations.

Please note that applications can only be submitted online through NVN's Funding Gateway, which also contains guidance on how to apply, along with explanatory links.

The deadline for bid submission is 5pm, 17th October 2022.

The Competition was announced by Zemo Partnership CEO Andy Eastlake and the Niche Vehicle Network at lunchtime on the Government Pavillion stand in Hall C3 on the first day of the Cenex-LCV 2022 Event, held at UTAC-Millbrook in Bedfordshire.

Earlier this year, with support from DfT, Zemo and the Motorcycle Industry Association jointly published an Action Plan – 'Realising the Full Potential of Zero Emission Powered Light Vehicles'. In July this year, the Department for Transport announced a consultation on the phase-out schedule for non-zero emission vehicles from the sector.
