With the launch of the Department for Transport consultation on phase-out dates for emitting powered light vehicles, the L-category sector (covering 2, 3 and light 4-wheel road vehicles) moves firmly into the spotlight and takes its place as one of the key opportunities for decarbonising road transport.

Since the publication of the Transport Decarbonisation Plan in July 2021, Zemo has been working with the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) to develop opportunities in this sector.

In February, with support from DfT, Zemo and MCIA jointly published an Action Plan – Realising the Full Potential of Zero Emission Powered Light Vehicles. In July 2022 DfT announced a consultation on the phase-out schedule for non-zero emission vehicles from the sector, to which Zemo will be responding.

To inform the Zemo response we are inviting interested parties (members and non-members), to an initial workshop on the morning of 9 September to help shape the Partnership view.

Prior to this, we will be hosting a 'PLV Village' at the UK's premier low carbon vehicle event - Cenex LCV - on 7-8 September to showcase the latest zero emission PLVs. The event will present the exciting opportunities being created in this sector to a joint industry and government audience.  Attendance at LCV is free. (Interested parties can register via the LCV website).

Come along to meet the team, read the Action Plan and see the innovative PLV vehicles on display as we discover the contribution that lighter, smaller vehicles can make to the future of zero emission transport!

Zemo Partnership will be responding to the L-category consultation (deadline 21st September) and is therefore seeking the views of our membership as well as of non-members. To this end, we will be holding a workshop on 9th September from 10:00am to 12:00 noon which will be open to all.  Further details and how register will be available via the workshop event page
