Description:

The conference will be examining the scale of the changes required to reduce our consumption of non-renewable carbon-intensive fuels, and will explore some of the factors preventing change – our desire for speed, convenience and independence.

Speakers: Michael Northcott, Professor of Ethics, the University of Edinburgh; Stephen Potter, Professor of Transport Strategy, the Open University.

The conference will also be reflecting on the way towns and cities have been developing, in ways that increase the distances people travel and favour private rather than public transport.   Finally we will consider how we can create a fairer future which sustains our fragile planet, whilst enabling all members of society to participate.

The event is being organised by MK Christian Environment Group, a local network launched in the autumn of 2006.  The conference is not exclusively for members of the faith community, and we are positioning the devotional session at the end of the programme, after a refreshment break, to allow those who don’t want to stay for it to leave before it starts.
