Description:

Sustainable Transport - Balancing the Needs of the Economy, Environment and Society will examine the new Government's strategies moving forward, which include the Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Strategy, initiatives to drive sustainable local travel and encourage a modal shift in travel behaviour.

The conference will look at the progress to date in aligning the growth of the ever-expanding transport system, with the requirement to deliver more sustainable means of transport and our commitment to reduce carbon emissions - 34 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.

This Conference provides the opportunity to discuss the Coalition Government's Sustainable Transport initiatives, with a focus on:

- the policies and implementation processes behind providing the necessary infrastructure to enable higher capacity;

- the innovation and technology behind green power sources; and

- the transport planning and passenger focus required to create a sustainable network for the future.

 Speakers include: - Michael Hurwitz, Director, Office for Low Emission Vehicles

- Kulveer Ranger, Mayor of London's Transport Director

- David Bott, Director of Innovation Programmes - Technology Strategy Board

- Anthony Smith, Chief Executive - Passenger Focus - Stephen Joseph, Executive Director - Campaign for Better Transport

Sir Michael Pitt will chair the day's programme of activities.

The morning session of the Conference will focus on the policy and guidance necessary to implement the infrastructure required to deliver sustainable travel and put Britain's transport designers, manufacturers, suppliers and operators on a low carbon trajectory. The afternoon session will showcase local authority best practice and progress in the delivery of sustainable transport through actively promoting public transport, innovation and smarter choices.
