The LowCVP is to run a series of seminars at the Energy 2017 exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday October 11. The series entitled The Electric Vehicle Revolution: Managing Impacts on the Powergrid will take place during the afternoon immediately preceding the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards gala dinner at the same venue. Speakers are already confirmed from National Grid, EA Technology, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, UK Power Networks and Drive Electric. The seminars precede the LowCVP's Low Carbon Champions Awards at the same venue.

Description:

The LowCVP is to run a series of seminars at the Energy 2017 exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday October 11. The series entitled The Electric Vehicle Revolution: Managing Impacts on the Powergrid will take place during the afternoon immediately preceding the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards gala dinner at the same venue. Speakers are already confirmed from National Grid, EA Technology, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, UK Power Networks and Drive Electric. 

The afternoon will comprise three half-hour seminars and a longer (one hour) panel session, focusing on issues relating to the impacts of increasing electric vehicle use on the powergrid and how network operators and other stakeholders are preparing for the changes.

The sessions (chaired by Andy Eastlake, LowCVP's Managing Director) are: 

  • 2.30-3.00: Electric vehicle growth projections and impact on power demand. The high-level policy challenges (Andy Eastlake, LowCVP and Liam Lidstone, Energy Technologies Institute)
  • 3.00-3.30: EVs and the grid; views from the energy industry (Marcus Stewart, National Grid; Stewart Reid, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks)
  • 3.30-4.00: Managing power demand from buses, trucks and larger vehicles in commercial premises (Christos Keramanisos, UK Power Networks)
  • 4.00-5.00: Panel session: Managing EV uptake and grid capacity: The role of ‘smart charging’ and energy storage in facilitating mass adoption of EVs in the UK (Dave Roberts, EA Technology; Mike Potter, Drive Electric; Peter Stephens, Nissan)

Energy 2017 (a part of UK Construction Week) is is a show dedicated to renewables, innovation and power solutions within the built environment, including the intersection between mobility/transport and the built sector.
