Description:

Powering Business to an EV Future The new event in the GreenFleet portfolio is GreenFleet North East, staged in association with Charge Your Car North. As a region, the North East of England is now in a position to lead the way in the introduction of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and show businesses in the region just how much they have to benefit from going electric. After receiving funding in Round 1 of the Plugged in Places (PiP) scheme, funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), and other regional partners, the Charge your Car project aims to ensure that drivers are never far from an electric vehicle charging point and to date the North East is the most EV connected region in the UK. Added to this, the region has also seen a good take-up of electric vehicle interest helped by the introduction of the Switch EV project which is enabling both businesses and individuals to trial a vehicle for a six month period. Click here to register North East - a natural leader North East England is truly pioneering in this exciting and emerging sector and is at the forefront of low carbon vehicles. The region has put in place a comprehensive package which includes manufacturing (the Nissan LEAF will be the first mass produced electric vehicle made in the UK and will be produced in Sunderland), battery development, training, research and development as well as a leading supply chain. This is your chance to be part of that revolution. The next stage is to encourage wide-scale take-up of EVs, with businesses in the region seen as the natural leaders in the adoption of the technology. Range Anxiety a common objection, in terms of practicality, has been overcome with the installation of the network of charging points, meaning that organisations should now be looking to introduce EVs in to their daily transport function, giving significant savings in terms of fuel cost, tax and NI benefits as well as carbon emissions. With around a dozen different makes and models of EV already on the market, the industry is now at a stage whereby this technology is becoming more and more common. With another 15 or so new models due on 2012, the time is right in the North East to make the region one of the worlds leading pioneers in the use of EV technology. So, now is the time to make the right choice. Thats where GreenFleet North East can help. The event is designed to offer businesses the most up to date information on the EVs on the market now, what is coming in the near future, and most importantly, give users the opportunity to get that vital Touch, Taste, Feel experience, by actually driving them. At the same time, the event will highlight the recharging options open to organisations that want to install the infrastructure at their base, and if need be, their drivers homes. And with grant money to assist in the purchase of the charging technology, the event will be a must attend for those looking to take the step in to the future of transport here in the UK. When & Where? Gateshead Colleges Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing & Innovation (SASMI) is Europes leading facility for the training in LCV and EV development.
