LowCVP Sustainable Urban Mobility Seminar  - 10 December 2012, Institution of Mechanical Engineers

A LowCVP seminar focusing on how technology will shape the cities of the future also showcased the winning entries of the 2012 LowCVP Urban Mobility Techology Challenge. Delegates heard a 'Dragons Den'-style analysis of the winning Challenge entries following a series of presentations and debates involving experts in the field.

The seminar was targeted at city and other urban authorities; public transport operators; the investment community; SMEs and other innovators in this field; consultancies with a technology focus in this area. It included presentations on the city of the future including real world case studies.

The winners of the Technology Challenge proffered solutions to the problems posed by the need to travel in crowded urban areas. The winning proposals include a lightweight, driverless electric bus; a system to improve the efficiency of urban freight transport; a bus-taxi hybrid (a ‘buxi’); a low carbon, community-managed car club; plus two variants of lightweight, single seat electric vehicles.
