Zemo Partnership members ev.energi and GridBeyond have published independent whitepapers on the opportunities and challenges for the UK's energy sector as the UK gears up for the mass market adoption of electric vehicles.

ev.energy has launched a white paper entitled: “Unlocking Industry Barriers to Providing Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Flexibility”, which explores how EV charging can help to make the UK's energy grid more efficicient and sustainable.

The paper draws on expert interviews with industry leaders from from the UK, EU, and US, and includes consumer surveys, industry reports, and data analysis. It provides a roadmap towards the implementation of smart bi-directional charging, enabling EVs to support the energy grid. The paper analyses the obstacles hindering V2X (vehicle-to-anything) energy flexibility.

The publication forms part of the £65 million Flexibility Innovation Programme funded by the Department of Enegry Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

Meanwhile, GridBeyond’s latest white paper "The Electrification Era - Scaling up Electric Vehicles" looks at the impact of EVs in some of the world’s largest markets and the challenges and opportunities faced by each country. The aim of the paper was to explore the current landscape across key global markets and explore the policies and incentives sitting behind the drive towards EV adoption.

The paper considers how EVs can revolutionise the way energy is managed and used through vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology.

It also looks at EV fleets and the opportunities for businesses to not only secure additional revenues but to further boost their green credentials by helping the grid to increase levels of renewables generation in the energy mix.

The paper says that “V2X technologies, including vehicle-to-grid (V2G), vehicle-to-home (V2H), and vehicle-to-load (V2L), have the potential to revolutionise the way we use and manage energy in transportation, homes and businesses.”
