At a special members' meeting, Zemo's Executive Director Claire Haigh set out the Partnership's plans to develop a key policy roadmap for the decarbonisation of UK road transport and how the new Council for Net Zero Transport, chaired by Lord Deben, will help to inform the strategic direction.

Presentations at the meeting also set out areas of specific focus for Zemo's working groups over the coming year.

These areas include:

  • Developing positive narratives and myth busting to help bring EVs to mass market
  • Effectively integrating energy and transport planning
  • Giving long-term certainty to the decarbonisation of commercial vehicles
  • Maximising the benefits from low carbon fuels
  • Minimising commercial risk in bus and coach decarbonisation

The meeting also set out more details of a key new project that Zemo has been commissioned by the Welsh Government to undertake. The Partnership intends that this will serve as a trailblazer project for the rest of the UK.

The Welsh Commercial Vehicle Decarbonisation programme will deliver a bespoke strategy for Wales covering heavy and light-duty commercial vehicles, with focus on sustainable fuels, electrification and the potential role for hydrogen. Zemo will be working closely with the Government of Wales to develop the strategy and routes to delivery.

Claire Haigh's  outlined Zemo's strategy for 2024-5 with a presentation which is now available to view (members only) on the  Zemo Website . The strategy is the culmination of discussions held over the last quarter, involving Zemo members, Members Council and Board.
