Winners of LowCVP HGV Technology Challenge present ideas to OEMs and major fleet buyers
The winners of the LowCVP's HGV Technology Challenge have presented their products to a host of executives from goods vehicle OEMs and major fleet operators. The winning entries offer innovative solutions to improve fuel economy and cut CO2 emissions from trucks. The improvements range from 8% to 25% and many of the solutions can be fitted to existing vehicles. The range of approaches allows some solutions to be applied in combination, offering even greater fuel and carbon savings.
The solutions include products to: use dual fuel (gas-diesel); improve trailer designs to increase carriage capacity and also to reduce drag; optimise driver behaviour; adopt a hybrid-hydraulic powertrain and a separate hybrid systems based on high-speed flywheels. The winners were selected by a panel of experts who considered aspects such as: carbon saving potential; commercial viability, and; ease of integration.

The winners presented their ideas at a special event which included representatives from leading manufacturers and fleet operators including: Allison Transmissions; Cummins; DAF Trucks; Daimler; Dennis Eagle; DHL Supply Chain; GKN UK; Iveco; Isuzu; Leyland Trucks; MAN Truck and Bus; Millbrook; Ricardo; Royal Mail Group; Serco Solutions; Eddie Stobart Ltd; TDG; Tesco Stores Ltd; Unipart; Volvo Trucks, and; Wincanton.
