The Central Whitelist will allow drivers to to access charging points without having to register for a new charging scheme in different locations. The intention that this will ultimately be developed with applications for satnavs and smartphones.

Transport Minister, Norman Baker said, “We know there is a public appetite out there for plug-in vehicles and as a government we’re doing everything possible to make them a real option for both motorists and industry.

In related news Nissan has teamed up with leading European utility and electrical vehicle supply equipment companies to provide 400 free quick charge (QC) points across Europe in a bid to accelarate the installation of a charging infrastructure.

The agreement - between Nissan, Circutor, DBT, Efacec, Endesa and Siemens - will reduce the unit price and also cut the unit size. The aim is to have a network of quick charge stations across Europe with several thousand units in place by the end of 2012 and tens of thousands by 2015.
