TransportEnergy issues update on programmes status

The Energy Saving Trust’s TransportEnergy division has issued an update on the status of its low carbon/clean vehicle support programmes, details of which have been submitted to the European Commission for State Aids approval.

According to normal procedures, the Commission has two months to give clearance to the proposed programmes.  If no response is received, the programmes are cleared by default and can be started any time thereafter.  If the Commission responds with questions on the detail of the programmes, then the Department for Transport will answer these, and the Commission will have a further two months from the date of the response to ask further questions or clear the programmes.

During discussion with the Commission, the detail of the programmes may be subject to change.  However, within these general constraints, TransportEnergy can confirm that 6 separate programmes proposed by the UK have been notified to the Commission including: a low carbon R&D programme; a low carbon bus demonstration programme; a low carbon car programme; an air quality retrofit programme; an air quality vehicle programme; an infrastructure development programme.

More details are given in the attachment which was issued by TransportEnergy on 5 April.
