Suttons Tankers and Nippon Gases UKI have begun a three-month trial of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) which aims to reduce the operator's carbon emissions. The move follows a successful trial across a selection of Suttons' fleet, which reported an 80% reduction in carbon emissions last year. The current trial uses HVO certified through Zemo Partnership's Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme.
The collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions within Nippon Gases' logistics operations. Building on the earlier trial experience, Suttons Tankers and Nippon Gases UKI are now working together to understand the potential benefits of HVO in their operations. During the trial, a selected fleet of Suttons Tankers' vehicles based in Stockton and dedicated to Nippon Gases will operate on a blend of HVO.
The outcome of the trials will inform the potential for a wider roll-out of HVO across Suttons Tankers’ Nippon Gases fleet.
Zemo's Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme was established to give fleet operators independent assurance about the origin and sustainability of the renewable fuel feedstocks they buy. 41 UK and internationally-based fuel suppliers are now members of the Scheme.
