The 'My Electric Avenue' project is looking for neighbourly groups of drivers, involving 10 people or more to drive an electric car for 18 months as part of a trial of new technology which monitors and controls the electricity used during charging. Each person will have an all-electric Nissan LEAF five-door family hatchback at an exclusively subsidised monthly rental for 18 months and a free home charger installed.

'My Electric Avenue' is hosted by Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD), and led by EA Technology, an innovation technology deliverer. LowCVP member Paul Clarke, Managing Director of Green-Car-Guide.com and Automotive Comms, has directed the marketing and communication for My Electric Avenue. The £9m project is part of Ofgem's Low Carbon Networks Fund programme, which supports projects sponsored by network providers to explore innovative, commercially-oriented technology and is the largest ever single trial on UK electric networks.

The project aims to pilot new technology that can spread out charging times and gain insights into how people use their electric vehicles including behavioural decisions and charging patterns. The free charging point home charger will be fitted with EA Technology's Espirit system which looks at the grid's capacity and sends a signal along the cable to a number of charging points to facilitate controlling the flow of electricity.
