The UK Centre of Excellence for low carbon vehicle technologies (Cenex), the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the UK Government's Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), have announced a joint call for £900,000 funding for collaborative research and development projects under the Niche Vehicle R&D Programme. The call for bids for grant funded collaborative R&D opens on 1st June and closes 31st July 2012.
Applications are being invited from UK niche vehicle manufacturers and suppliers with two or more collaborative partners wanting to conduct a project (maximum six months duration) to develop a new product or process around the theme of carbon reduction and lightweight vehicle technologies.
Supported by contributions from Advantage West Midlands and the Technology Strategy Board, the programme offers grants for R&D and support to form consortia. The project is being managed by Cenex. All grant funding decisions are made by an independent private sector executive board which includes at least 3 independent TSB assessors.
Richard Bruce, Head of the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles said: “The UK is home to over 100 niche vehicle manufacturers, many of them small and medium sized enterprises, supported by a significant base of low-volume and design engineering suppliers. We hope this call will encourage collaborative R&D, demonstrate the UK’s capability for developing highly innovative vehicle technologies and provide the basis for future commercial success".
