New Zealand is introducing its own version of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership. The organisation will co-ordinate information, research and develop solutions to climate change issues in the transport industry in New Zealand.

The new organisation is being modelled on the LowCVP in the UK and will be known by the same name.

The LowCVP (New Zealand) aims to cooperate as far as possible with the UK's LowCVP, sharing ideas, information and expertise with the aim of accelerating the shift to low carbon vehicles and fuels in both countries.

Dr Ian Brooks, chairman of LowCVP New Zealand said: “They (the LowCVP, UK) are playing a very significant role in helping that country to develop environmentally friendly means of transportation. We see a need to do the same here. If we are successful, LowCVP New Zealand will be a very valuable resource helping governments, businesses and individuals to create a New Zealand that is even cleaner and greener tomorrow than it is today.”
