The International Council on Clean Transportation has released a new study which provides an assessment of next generation electric vehicle technologies. It looks at issues like electric range, models available, battery capacity and cost, and examines the global production growth potential of car manufacturers and battery suppliers until 2023.

ICCT used a combination of electric vehicle sales data, vehicle specifications, academic research literature, and recent manufacturer announcements to assess the progress of electric vehicle technology improvements along a variety of metrics related to vehicle performance and market adoption.

ICCT concluded that several key performance metrics, such as electric vehicle range and battery capacity, have improved at a steady pace since 2010 and are well placed for significant growth over the next five years or so. with the development of next generation technologies.

The report determined that with technology advancements, vehicle manufacturers are refining EV electric vehicle performance, increasing the number of models available and achieving greater economies of scale with an upsurge in production.

Together, these trends suggest a developing market for EVs that is overcoming key consumer performance and cost adoption barriers.
