Royal Mail is taking on an additional 2,000 new Peugeot electric vans to expand its growing fleet of electric vehicles. The order of new Peugeot e-Expert and Peugeot e-Partner vans should mean that over 5,000 electric vehicles will be in use by the national delivery service by Spring 2023. Meanwhile, First Bus has placed an £81m order for 193 electric buses, claimed to be the largest so far outside London.

The Peugeot e-Partner is powered by a 50kWh battery providing a range of up to 171 miles (WLTP). The van offers a load volume of 4.4m3 (matching its diesel equivalent) and a payload of up to 800kg.

Available with either a 50kWh or 75kWh battery, the PEUGEOT e-Expert offers up to 143 and 205 miles of range respectively (WLTP), while customers also have a choice of two lengths (Standard and Long). It has a payload of up to 1226kg and a 6.6m3 load volume.

Meanwhile, First Bus has ordered a total of 193 electric buses from UK manufacturer Wrightbus to significantly expand its zero emission public transport roll-out.

The order – claimed to be the largest EV bus purchase outside London – is worth a total of £81m. First Bus, which is part of transport giant FirstGroup, will provide £43 million of the investment with the rest coming from a £38m grant from the Department for Transport’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) fund that has been set up to help local authorities convert their transport fleets to electric power.

First Bus worked with five Local Authority regions to secure the ZEBRA funding, and the order of 193 buses will be split between those regions. Leicester will get 68 buses, with 44 going to York, 32 to Leeds, 15 to Norwich and 34 to Portsmouth. The deliveries will take place over the next two years.
