A wider range of entries were received to the LowCVP's Technology Challenge for trucks. Entries covered proposals for emissions reduction technologies from exhaust energy recovery, flywheel energy storage systems, vehicle hybridisation and dual-fuel systems amongst others.

Included amongst the entries are three exhaust energy recovery methods; two flywheel energy storage systems; four hybridisation techniques; two low carbon dual-fuelling systems; two on-board hydrogen generators; two fuel treatment techniques; two systems to increase pallet loading capacity of trailers; a novel aerodynamic trailer design; a new engine concept; life improvement of lubricant oil and computer-assisted engine demand control.

Winning organisations will engage senior executives of vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and major fleet operators, and present their technology at a prestigious, dedicated event later in 2010.

Following the success of last year’s Challenge the entries further reflect the diverse and innovative approaches off UK businesses in meeting the carbon-reduction challenges faced by the sector.

Look out for the winners to be announced later in the year and the prestigious winners’ presentation event, involving executives from fleets and vehicle manufacturers.
