The LowCVP was an exhibitor at Cenex's Low Carbon Vehicles (LCV) 2012 event held at Millbrook on 5-6 September. The event provided a good networking opportunity for the LowCVP and its members and provided a boost to LowCVP membership applications. Videos and other resources from the event are now available on-line (see associated links).

The LowCVP was an exhibitor for both days of the event, displaying materials in the purpose-built exhibition centre which was new for 2012. Secretariat staff were kept very busy over both days of the event by visitors to the LowCVP stand, other networking and contact-building opportunities and the range of seminars on offer.

Applications for the LowCVP were boosted through attendance at the show, with ten applications now being processed for approval by the Members Council on 24 October. (Any organisations now considering joining the LowCVP are urged to apply to ensure early approval.)

In her upbeat presentation at the opening of the event Professor Dame Julia King, a former LowCVP Board Member, reflected on progress made since the landmark King Review was published five years ago. Professor King said that there has been a step change in the rate of progress in reducing new car CO2 emissions over that period due to concerted  and effective action between Government, industry and other stakeholders.

Despite initial resistance from some elements of the motor industry to the CO2 reduction targets, she said, consistent Government signals and other policy actions have resulted in an acceleration in the rate of decline of  CO2 emissions and that these have been associated with growth in UK motor industry production and enhanced prospects for the industry overall.

Professor King credited various Government Departments supported by organisations including the LowCVP with creating the conditions under which this 'win-win' situation has been achieved.
