LowCVP at the party conferences

Thu 10 August 2006 View all news

The LowCVP held a fringe meeting at each of this year's party conferences to discuss appropriate policies to speed the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels. The LowCVP's meetings all took place in the 'Climate Clinic', a new initiative designed to focus debate on climate change at a single venue.

The LowCVP's fringe events focused on the theme 'Powering Future Vehicles: Can road transport rise to the climate challenge?'. The Transport minister, Stephen Ladyman, spoke at the Labour fringe meeting; Alistair Carmichael, the LibDem's Transport Shadow and Tim Yeo, chair of the Environmental Audit Committee spoke at the LibDem and Conservative meetings respectively. In each case, the panel comprised of Stephen Joseph, Executive Director of Transport 2000 and a LowCVP spokesperson. The events were chaired by Geoffrey Lean, Environment Correspondent of the Independent on Sunday. (For a report of the discussions at each of the fringe meetings, please see the attachment.)

The LowCVP collaborated alongside 16 other organisations in the 'Climate Clinic', all closely involved in the mitigation of Climate change. The Clinic hosted over 70 meetings and other events, including presentations on the latest climate science by leading members of the scientific community. (For a listing of all the events that took place, follow the Climate Clinic link below.)
