LowCVP at the 2012 Party Conferences

The LowCVP took part in this autumn's Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat party conferences as a member of the new Sustainability Hub, also collaborating in a fringe meeting and other activities.

The Sustainability Hub reception was developed to provide a platform to enable organisations to add their voice in a collaborative fashion and engage directly with key political contacts and influential stakeholders on climate change and sustainable economic development at the 2012 Party Conferences.

In addition to the LowCVP, members of the Sustainability Hub included: Bond, Calor Gas, CarbonQuarter, Carillion, CHPA, Conservative Environment Network, Energy Bill Revolution, Green Alliance, Green Liberal Democrats, Micropower Council, National Energy Action, National Right to Fuel Campaign, PRASEG, RAC Foundation, RenewableUK, RSPB, Save Britain Money Group, SERA, Worcester Bosch, WWF,

Sustainability Hub receptions were held as follows:

  • Liberal Democrats on Monday 24 September from 20.00-21.15 in the Grand Hotel, Brighton 
  • Labour on Monday October 1 from 19.30 – 21.00 in the Radisson Edwardian Walters Suite, Manchester 
  • Conservatives on Monday 8 October from 19.30-21.00 in the Box Office Foyer in the ICC, Birmingham

The LowCVP also collaborated with Action Aid in a fringe meeting to be held at the Conservative Party Conference on Sunday October 7, 5.30-7pm at the Hyatt Hotel, Birmingham.

The event was entitled “Reducing Carbon from Transport by 2020” and the speakers included: Andy Eastlake, Managing Director, LowCVP (chair); Graham Smith, Managing Director, Toyota Motor Europe; Doug Parr, Chief Scientist and Policy Director, Greenpeace; Tim Rice, Policy Adviser, Action Aid.

The LowCVP also attended the Transport Hub dinner, SMMT and other third-party events held at each of the party conferences.
