Transport Secretary Justine Greening and a cast of leading speakers took part in the LowCVP Conference on Thursday May 10 at ExCel, London. Over 170 delegates attended the event which was covered by a wide variety of media. 94% of delegates responding to a post-Conference feedback survey said the event was either 'very good' or 'good'.
The Transport Secretary told the Conference that the time is ripe for the UK automotive sector to 'seize the moment and grab a share of green growth and jobs'. For a full report on the SoS' speech, click here.
In his first appearance as Managing Director of the LowCVP, Andy Eastlake outlined his early thoughts on the future of the Partnership which will reach the tenth anniversary of its inception early next year. Some of the LowCVP's recent achievements over the last year also featured. (These were summarised in a document which appeared in the Conference delegate pack - see link. The Partnership's main achievements over it's first ten years are detailed here.)
A video recording of Andy Eastlake's speech is here and his Powerpoint presentation here.
The Conference opened with a presentation by Michael Jacobs, a former adviser to the Prime Minister on the latest developments in the politics of climate change. Following perspectives from the viewpoint of industry representatives the Conference divided into parallel sessions focusing on freight, fleet issues, fuels and emissions. The formal sessions concluded with a plenary debate on how road transport can help meet the UK's Carbon Plan targets. All presentations delivered by Powerpoint at the Conference are accessible here.
Following the Conference delegates were invited to a drinks reception, sponsored by Shell and the Energy Saving Trust, which took place in the associated EcoVelocity exhibition of low carbon vehicles.
Over 50 delegates responded to the LowCVP's post-Conference survey. 94% said the Conference was either 'very good' (34%) or 'good' (60%) with the remaining 6% saying it was 'average'. Three-quarters of those responding, said the event was either 'very good' or 'good' value for money. Delegate management and communications were particularly highly rated and respondents also enjoyed the Conference catering and food.
Opinion was more divided on the use of Twitter, which was a new innovation at this year's Conference. Nevertheless a large majority (nearly 70% of those responding) said it 'definitely' or 'somewhat' added interest to the event. A significant minority, however, (nearly 20%) said it was 'a bit of a gimmick and a distraction'.
Several hundred tweets were delivered during the Conference with several hundred more responses coming from stakeholders in attendance at the Conference or elsewhere. Several questions and comments originating from tweets were delivered to speakers and attending delegates by session chairs.
The LowCVP's 2012 Annual Conference was sponsored by Michelin.
