A new electric van capable of covering over 100 miles on a single charge and reaching a top speed of 50mph was one of the environmental attractions of the recent CV Show 2006. Also on display was a diesel-electric conversion of a Ford Transit.

Modec claim that their new electric van will revolutionise urban delivery.

The van has been designed with large fleets in mind and talks are currently underway with a number of organisations including Ocado.

The makers say that the van also enjoys low insurance rates, no road tax or operator’s licence as well as a 100 per cent Congestion Charge discount.

A technology and engineering alliance between three UK-based companies has created a demonstration vehicle that is designed to bring the advantages of hybrid technology to operators in the "white van" sector.

Azure Dynamics, GKN Autostructures and Ingimex took a standard, diesel-engined Ford Transit and converted it to a diesel electric hybrid capable of operating in a variety of drive modes, driven either by diesel or electric power or a combination of both.
