Mr Carmichael has spent five years as MP for Orkney and Shetland after a career in law and hotel management. Mr Carmichael has been a spokesperson on Energy and was also a member of the LibDems Home Affairs team.

Chris Huhne, the shadow environment secretary, was an economic and financial journalist for nineteen years prior to becoming a member of the European Parliament in 1999 and, in 2005, the MP for Eastleigh.

Ed Davey, the MP for Kingston and Surbiton, is the new lead spokesman on trade and industry. Mr Davey was formerly a shadow education secretary and, prior to that, an economic affairs spokesman.
