Honda has revealed that it will revive the name of the first hybrid gasoline-electric car introduced in the United States, the Honda Insight. The new hybrid Honda Insight will go on sale in the US in April 2009 and is expected to sell for approximately US$19,000.

Honda reports that it has cut the cost of its IMA hybrid system by around half for the Insight; the projected price of the new Honda Insight is several thousand dollars below the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Hybrid Synergy Drive.

The Insight is a five-door hatchback and can carry 5 passengers. Its aerodynamic design borrows elements from Honda’s FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle. Together with the Civic Hybrid, the car will be produced at an expanded hybrid vehicle production line at the Suzuki factory in Japan.

Takeo Fukui, Honda's CEO, said: "This new Insight will break new ground as an affordable hybrid within the reach of customers who want great fuel economy and great value."

The concept vehicle will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October.
