Hertz, the leading car rental company, has introduced a 'Green Collection' to make it easier for customers to choose and drive the most environmentally friendly and fuel efficient vehicles.

Around 6,800 small and mid-size, and full-size automatic and manual vehicles will be available to choose from across the UK, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. The range will also be made available in France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland before the end of 2006. In total, 50 Hertz locations will offer the 'Green Collection'.

The range across Europe will include the Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI, Renault Megane D 5CV, Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI and Skoda Octavia TDI, amongst others. Hertz plans to add hybrid cars to the Collection shortly.

Both carbon emissions and MPG levels were used as criteria to determine which vehicles would be included. Vehicles will have a weighted CO2 output of less than 140 g/km (the 2008 ACEA voluntary average target) and will fall within the efficiency range of 41.5 and 65.7 miles per gallon.
