Greener Journeys, the bus industry campaign group which focuses on cutting CO2 emissions from transport, has launched its 'One Billion Challenge' with the goal of replacing a billion car journeys from the UK's roads and cutting the emissions of two million tonnes of CO2.

The campaign aims to deliver reductions in transport emissions by encouraging people to switch some of their car journeys to bus or coach instead. Over the next three years, Greener Journeys aims to transfer a billion car journeys.

Greener Journeys says that to achieve the one billion target, all we need is for people to switch just one journey in 25 from car to bus or coach.

The campaign has launched its first-ever national consumer marketing campaign to persuade people to get out of cars and on to buses. It will help people identify specific journeys where taking the bus is the simplest and most convenient way to travel. The campaign will use the catch-phrase: ‘Sometimes you can’t beat the bus’ and is giving away a million free bus tickets to support the initiative.

The LowCVP is collaborating with Greener Journeys and Transport Times at events at each of the party conferences. For more information, please see the associated link.
