Fuel efficiency now 'most prominent issue in vehicle purchases' - KPMG survey

Fri 05 January 2007 View all news

A global survey of car industry leaders by US tax and audit firm KPMG concludes that fuel efficiency and hybrid technology are not passing concerns but representative of a permanent shift in consumer attitudes.

The survey found that 89 percent of the 150 participants surveyed believe that fuel efficiency has become the most prominent issue in vehicle purchases. In a similar survey carried out a year earlier, 87 percent of the executives had told KPMG that the leading factor in consumer decisions was product quality.

The executives survey predicted that hybrid vehicles sales will rise rapidly in the US in 2007 to as many as 500,000 vehicles, from 200,000 in 2006.

The results of the survey are reflected in the wider range of low carbon, more efficient vehicles on display at this year's Detroit Motor Show. (See story via link below.)
