A poll for the Financial Times finds that nearly 9 out of 10 Europeans are convinced that human activity is causing climate change and over two-thirds are prepared to accept lifestyle restrictions in order to tackle it.

The FT Research, carried out by Harris Interactive in Germany, France, the UK, Italy and Spain found that 86 per cent of those surveyed believed humans were contributing to climate change, and 45 per cent thought it would be a threat to them and their families within their lifetimes.

68 per cent of the respondents said they would either 'strongly' or 'somewhat' support restrictions on their behaviour and purchases in order to reduce the threat.

However, the survey also showed that less than half of those surveyed were prepared to make significant financial sacrifices to deal with the climate threat. A quarter said they would pay one week’s wages or more, but a third said they would not pay anything at all.
