The European Commission has published its monitoring report on average CO2 emissions from new passenger cars in 2002. The report shows a decrease in average CO2 emissions from 186g CO2/km in 1995 to 166g CO2/km in 2002. However, the Commision notes that to achieve the Community target of 120g CO2/km in 2010, additional efforts have to be made. Average annual CO2 reductions will have to increase from currently 1.5% to the required level of 3.5% per annum.
