A major new report into Britain's transport network, commissioned by the Government, says that nationwide road pricing is needed to cut traffic congestion.

The Eddington Report concludes that road pricing could halve congestion by 2025 and bring significant environmental and economic benefits worth £28bn a year.

The report recommends early pilot projects leading to a national scheme within ten years.

Other recommendations include investments in major projects, including railway infrastructure, and smaller projects such as improvements in the cycle network and bus routes.
