Transport minister David Jamieson has announced that he is to stand down at the General Election which is expected in early May.

The announcement was made shortly before the minister appeared at a low carbon road transport event alongside a LowCVP spokesman.

Mr Jamieson has held responsibility for low carbon and clean fuel vehicles in the Department for Transport since 2001. He has been the chair of the Ministerial Low Carbon Group (involving ministers from DfT, Treasury, Defra, DTI and the Cabinet Office) which was established as part of the Government's Powering Future Vehicles strategy in 2003.

Mr Jamieson has been deeply involved with the activities of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and has taken part in many public events with LowCVP representatives. The most recent event was a Praseg (Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group) seminar, held in the House of Commons on March 1st, in which Mr Jamieson spoke alongside LowCVP Director Greg Archer.
