Cenex LCV2016 sees 10% rise in visitor numbers, more exhibitors

With over 3,100 attendees, Cenex-LCV2016 achieved a 10% total increase in visitor and exhibitor attendance compared with LCV2015. Hosted at Millbrook, the event featured over 226 exhibitors (up 7%) and 122 vehicles on display (up 16 %).  More than 90 presentations were made and in addition, more than 330 people attended the Cenex-LowCVP LCV2016 networking dinner, at the MK Dons Stadium.

The LowCVP played a prominent part in LCV2016. The Partnership was a participant in the UK Pavilion – a major new initiative from funding and policy-supporting bodies associated with the UK Government. The Pavilion was a showcase for the entire UK innovation support ecosystem, from academia and research support through to commercialisation and mainstream adoption.

Highlights of the 2016 event included: 

  • The Keynote address by Climate Change and Industry Minister Nick Hurd who said the UK government is absolutely determined to maintain success of the automotive industry
  • Delta Motorsport revealed its E4 Coupe sports car fitted with its range extender. The company developed this in a £3.1 million collaborative R&D project funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Innovate UK.
  • The debut of the first ever British made sports car successfully powered by a single rotor rotary engine.  The historic moment is a result of a Niche Vehicle Network collaborative project to develop a high performance low carbon vehicle; utilising an Advanced Innovative Engineering (AIE) rotary engine designed to improve fuel efficiency and environmental performance of the vehicle, whilst delivering optimal power with reduced emissions.
  • Neville Jackson, Deputy Chair of The Automotive Council Technology Group launched a report entitled “The Digital Revolution – The Potential for Virtual Engineering in the Automotive Sector”
  • The launch of the Electric Nation project – Managed by EA Technology; a trial enabling 500-700 new electric vehicle drivers to test a smart charging solution, to ensure local electricity networks can cope with the increasing numbers of EVs
  • The Niche Vehicle Network announced a new £80,000 feasibility study competition
  • The unveiling of a new catayst after-treatment testing system by Catagen
  • Rolec EV launched a new public charging network. ‘EV Charge Online’, enables each and every EV driver to simply pull up to a charge point and, using their mobile phone, tablet or in-car connectivity, login to the charge point and pay on the spot for its use. 
  • RDM Group exhibited its Pod Zero Vehicle in full autonomous mode
  •  A Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Showcase, supported by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles

In collaboration with LCV organiser, Cenex, the LowCVP again recognised the best achievements in low carbon road transport of the last year with the presentation of the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards at the LCV2016 Networking Dinner, held at the MK Dons Stadium, Milton Keynes.
