Cenex launches guide to cutting fleet emissions

Cenex – the UK’s Centre of Excellence for low carbon vehicle technologies - has launched a new guide to help fleets cut their carbon emissions and chose the right low or zero-carbon vehicles. The 50-page guide is free and examines and explains how to reduce carbon from fleet vehicles, including analytical approaches, technology guidance and case studies.

The Fleet Carbon Reduction Tool comprises three parts:

1. Evaluating low carbon vehicle options, from making the case for low carbon vehicles to trialling low carbon options

2.  Technology guidance, providing information on the underlying improvements available in conventional engine technology through hybrid and pure electric options and gaseous fuels

3. Four case studies looking at the integration of low carbon vehicles into public and private sector fleets

The guidance is technology neutral so it does will not recommend an electric van for example where a diesel van would be better suited.

“The guide will signpost to all the relevant technology available that is relevant to reducing carbon emissions:” said Chris Walsh, head of technical support at Cenex, in a report in Fleet News

Cenex CEO Robert Evans said: "Fleet operators face significant challenges in responding to the need to lower carbon emissions and to reduce the energy use of their vehicles."

The Carbon Reduction Tool was launched at the Cenex's LCV2010 held at Millbrook Proving Ground in September. The LCV Show is an  annual event to showcase the capabilities of UK technology providers and is intended to provide a global platform for collaborative opportunities.
