Energy Networks Association (ENA) is the voice of the networks, representing the ‘wires and pipes’ transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland. Working with its member companies ENA supports the deployment of low carbon vehicles and infrastructure necessary to fuel them. Electric vehicles have a strategic role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and are a key component of the transition to a low carbon economy.
ENA’s electricity network operator members unanimously support this transition and are investing in our networks to ensure that they can safely and reliably meet the increase in electricity demand required to support these technologies. We coordinate with a range of other areas of the electricity networks that are affected by EVs: Connections Earthing & Protection Planning Smart Metering Safety Policy & Regulation.
Gas also has a vital role to play in meeting the challenge of climate change and net zero emissions, with biomethane and hydrogen gases providing options for HGV and bus fleet decarbonisation. Supported by its gas network operator members ENA's major new Gas Decarbonisation Pathways Project will progress system enhancement underway to take forward work to facilitate smart integration and use of a wider range of gases for transport as well as heating and industry.
