EINTAC is supporting the increase of vehicle technicians who are qualified to service and repair electric, hybrid and hydrogen cell vehicles. Statistics published by The Institute of The Motor Industry show a significant shortage in qualified technicians. EINTAC’s IMI and City & Guilds Training Programs are helping to reduce this skill shortage. In addition, EINTAC support this sector with specialist insulated tooling, clothing and other safety products, which all goes to reduce the risk of electric shock injury during maintenance. The latest electric and hybrid vehicles use large batteries to power them. The demand for increased vehicle range means batteries are growing in charge capacity. This all leads to increased risk of electric shock. Equipment provided by EINTAC leads the vehicle technician to follow a predetermined sequence to isolate, de-energise and make safe the battery prior to work. These procedures evolve from The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, an approved code of practice for the safe isolation of energy sources. Technicians who have undergone the necessary training and are equipped with the correct tooling and safety clothing are far less likely to succumb to accident and injury.
