LowCVP 15th Anniversary Parliamentary Reception, 20 March - save the date!

The LowCVP will be celebrating our 15th anniversary in the impressive surroundings of the Terrace Pavilion in the House of Commons on Tuesday 20 March 2018 from 4-6pm. Hosted by Lillian Greenwood MP, Chair of Transport Select Committee, this high profile reception will review and celebrate the significant progress made towards low emissions road transport over the last 15 years and focus on some of the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Annual new car CO2 emissions rose for the first time in twenty years in 2017 - latest data

Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that yearly average new car tailpipe CO2 emissions rose for the first time since 1997 last year. New cars averaged 121.04g/km, up 0.8% on 2016.


Policy Developments

UK government launches open consultation on improving road vehicles air quality and safety

The Government has launched an open consultation outlining its plans for change in the law which will hold vehicle importers and dealer-distributors to account if vehicles are sold with emissions so-called 'defeat devices'. Transport minister Jesse Norman is opening a consultation today outlining the new measures. 


£42m Faraday Challenge funding announced

The Faraday Institution has announced that it will be providing up to £42 million in new government funding to four UK-based consortia to conduct research aimed at overcoming battery-related obstacles to the uptake of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution. 


Government announces agreement of Automotive Sector Deal

The Government has announced the conclusion of an Automotive Sector Deal with the UK automotive industry. The agreeement aims to build on the strengths of the UK auto sector and further develop the strong collaborative partnership established between government and industry.


New ministerial responsibilities confirmed at DfT and BEIS following reshuffle

In a new year reshuffle the Prime Minister has changed the ministerial teams at both DfT and BEIS. While Jesse Norman MP retains responsibility at DfT for most of the transport and environment agenda (including electric and autonomous vehicles), new minister Nusrat Ghani (pictured) now takes responsibility for buses and taxis. Jo Johnson MP also joins DfT as minister of state, responsible mainly for rail-related issues; Baroness Sugg also joins as Parliamentary Under-Secretary.


APC UK announces £30m for collaborative projects

The Advanced Propulsion Centre’s latest funding competition is now open, offering up to £30 million matched funding for innovation that actively accelerates the introduction of low carbon propulsion technologies to the market. 


Reports & Studies

Low carbon innovation is road to future sales - new report

A new report by CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) says that the global motor industry is facing a double hit of disruption from the rise of EVs and autonomous and shared driving. It says that over a fifth of profits are likely to shift to technology companies like Uber and Google by 2030. The report ranks 16 of the world’s largest publicly listed motor companies on readiness for a low carbon transition.


Smart charging innovation key to managing power impacts of EV uptake - report

New research says that the UK's energy system will be able to cope with extra electricity demand from millions of electric vehicles providing effective smart charging innovations, some of which are now being trialled, are introduced. Aurora Energy Research says the number of EVs on Britain's road will rise from around 120,000 today to 10 million by 2035.

UK Bus Summit - 08/02/2018

The fourth annual UK Bus Summit will be held in London at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster on 8th February 2018 and once again is supported by Department for Transport and Transport for London. This year the focus will be on why buses are an integral part of the solution to Clean Air Zones rather than the problem. 


Fully Charged Live - 09/06/2018

Created by TV Presenter, Robert Llewellyn, Fully Charged launched on YouTube in 2010 & has aired ~300 episodes on the future of energy & transport. Interest in low emission technologies is surging and the show has a growing, engaged audience.


Michelin: Movin' On Event - Montreal - 30/05/2018

Movin’On, presented by Michelin and organized by Montreal-based C2, is taking the next step. From May 30 - June 1, in Montréal, over 5,000 leaders of the global mobility ecosystem from the public and private sectors will share their ideas, expertise and experience and forge ahead on the mobility of tomorrow.
