Bank of England Governor Carney warns of climate change risk to financial sector


The Governor of the Bank of England has warned that climate change poses a huge risk to global stability. Speaking at Lloyds of London at a gathering of leading insurance companies, Mark Carney said that climate change will lead to financial crises and falls in living standards unless countries do more to tackle it.

UK Government calls for EU-wide investigation into VW and emissions testing

Volkswagen has announced that nearly 1.2 million of its diesel vehicles sold in the UK are fitted with 'defeat devices'; the software implicated in the emissions scandal. It includes diesel-powered cars with the VW brand, Audi, Seat and Skoda as well as VW commercial vehicles.


Warwick Manufacturing Group wins £10m low carbon battery prize; £20m low carbon vehicle R&D competition announced

An automotive consortium led by the Warwick Manufacturing Group has won a government backed £10 million Ultra Low Emission Battery Prize, which incentivises the development of the next generation of batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles in the UK. 


First public access hydrogen filling station opens in South Yorkshire

The north of England's first hydrogen filling station has been opened by ITM Power at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in South Yorkshire, near the M1 motorway. 


Go ahead given for UK's largest CNG station to open by 2016

CNG fuels will be opening the UK's largest compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station off  the M6 motorway in Lancashire. Planning permission was secured and the gas filling station should be open by the end of the year. 


Former LowCVP 'Champion' wins in £25m Advanced Biofuels Demonstration Competition

The Department for Transport  has announced three winners of its £25 million Advanced Biofuels Demonstration Competition aimed at accelerating the domestic advanced biofuels industry. One of the biggest winners is Edinburgh-based Celtic Renewables, a past winner of the LowCVP's Low Carbon Champions Fuel Initiative Award.

LowCVP statement on VW and emissions testing

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership was surprised and very disappointed to learn of the abuse of vehicle testing by Volkswagen, and has reiterated the Partnership’s long-stated position that robust testing of emissions from all vehicles is essential.


LowCVP to manage gas HGV test programme for DfT

With the low carbon truck trial (LCTT) nearing its final phase, and the emergence of Euro VI gas vehicle technology for HGVs, the LowCVP has been selected to manage a new test programme to benchmark all the latest gas trucks for emissions including methane, carbon dioxide (CO2) and fuel consumption.


LowCVP to hold stakeholder workshop to inform response to Defra Draft Air Quality Plans

The LowCVP will be holding a workshop on the morning of Monday 19 October (10am to 1pm, tbc) to help inform the Partnership's response to Defra's consultation which seeks views on draft plans to improve air quality in the UK.


LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Award Winners celebrated at packed networking dinner

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) announced the Low Carbon Champions for 2014-15 last night at a packed gala dinner held in association with Cenex and LCV15 in Milton Keynes. The Champions Awards celebrate achievement and innovation in low carbon road transport.


LowCVP new publications to support low carbon and low emission road transport

The LowCVP has published a range of new publications, based on its recent work, to provide information to members and stakeholders about the wide variety of options for cutting carbon and local air pollutants in the UK.


Media release: LowCVP showcases 'Bigger Thinking on Smaller Vehicles' at LCV2015

A LowCVP exhibition at LCV2015 (9-10 September, Millbrook) showcases the economic and technical prospects for smaller - L-Category - vehicles in the UK and the potential for their growth to 2020. The exhibition is one element of the LowCVP’s ‘Bigger Thinking on Greener Vehicles’ theme, as the Partnership introduces its work plans for 2015-16 (featured on stand C3-316 at LCV2015).

TfL publishes report on In-service emissions performance of Euro-6/VI vehicles

TfL has published a report on the performance of Euro-6/VI diesel car and goods vehicles emissions in 'real life' as part of its efforts to develop an Ultra Low Emission Zone in the city.


Policy Developments

£5m 'greener' bus fund set to address local air quality issues

Local authorities across England are being invited to bid for a share of £5 million funding to fit buses with 'green technology' and offer better journeys through the Clean Bus Technology Fund 2015. There will be a maximum of £500,000 for bids offering schemes to cut NOx emissions and improve air quality.

Lilian Greenwood is the new Shadow Secretary of State for Transport and Lisa Nandy becomes Energy and Climate Change Shadow Secretary as Jeremy Corbyn's announces his new front bench team following his election as leader of the Labour Party.

New automotive research facility opens at Bath University

A state-of-the-art chassis dynamometer or 'rolling road' forms the centre of the £2.4m Centre for Low Emission Vehicle emissions Research (CLEVeR) at the University of Bath. The new facility will enable the measurement of automotive emissions and help ensure consistency between real world and laboratory laboratory analysis.    


11th Shell Springboard competition to open for innovative low carbon SMEs

The Shell Springboard 2016 competition, now in its 11th year, supports the the UK’s best and most innovative low carbon enterprises. The competion will open for applications on Monday, 5 October.

Freight in the City - 27/10/2015

Freight in the City is a new initiative from Road Transport Media Ltd which will focus on the promotion of sustainable urban deliveries. The LowCVP's MD Andy Eastlake will speak at the event in which the Partnership is also otherwise associated. 


Automotive Electronic Systems - AESIN Conference 2015 - 28/10/2015

AESIN 2015 is a two-day national conference aimed at exploring opportunities in the area of Automotive Electronic Systems for professionals and industry leaders. There is a 25% discount for LowCVP members on delegate rates.


The Intelligent City Mobility Event - 12/11/2015

The Intelligent City Mobility event is for transport, urban design, intelligent mobility, city management, parking, smarter travel and automotive professionals.  Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), pay as you go cars, electric cars, journey planning and parking apps, in-car navigation systems, car and cycle sharing schemes, driver-assisted and autonomous vehicles are all manifestations of the world of ‘Intelligent Mobility’. This event will look at how cities in the UK and abroad are redefining their relationships with the car – for the better.
