Bigger Thinking on Smaller Vehicles - LowCVP to showcase UK prospects for L-Cat vehicles at LCV2015


A LowCVP exhibition at the LCV2015 Event will showcase some outputs of a project to assess the economic and technical prospects for smaller - L-Category - vehicles in the UK and the potential for their growth to 2020. Under the banner 'Bigger Thinking on Smaller Vehicles' the exhibtion will feature futuristic designs of two, three and smaller four-wheel vehicles produced by students of industrial design at Coventry University, one of the project partners.

Policy Developments

Government announces extension of plug-in car grants to February 2016

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has confirmed the Plug-In Car Grant will continue to be offered at current levels until  February 2016. The discount, worth up to £5,000 on plug-in hybrid or electric cars will be reviewed as part of the Spending Review process, due in November.


New Government report reviews evidence on ULEV uptake

The Government's Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has published a new report which reviews UK and international evidence on ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs). The report aims to dispel long-held beliefs about electric car ownership and usage patterns. It finds that 90% of owners would recommend an electric vehicle to others.


Environment groups urge Prime Minister to step up low carbon ambition

Ten leading environmental groups have written to Prime Minister David Cameron, criticising policy changes affecting the low carbon economy made since the General Election in May. 


International Developments

US announces Clean Power Plan to help ease the road to Paris

New rules announced by the Obama Administration in the US are designed to cut emissions from power plants. The final rules propose a 32% cut in carbon emissions from power plants by 2030 on 2005 levels, up from the initial proposal of 30%.

LowCVP and Sustainability Hub at the Party Conferences

The LowCVP is working with the sustainability hub to participate in events at the upcoming party conferences. Events are planned to take place in Bournemouth (LibDems),  Brighton (Labour) and Manchester (Conservatives) - where DECC Secretary of State Amber Rudd will speak - during the next month.


Shortlist for 2015 Low Carbon Champions Awards reflects Innovation in Green Transport

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) has today revealed a diverse shortlist of innovative nominees for the 2015 Low Carbon Champions Awards. The shortlisted organisations and projects reflect the UK’s continued progressive thinking in the area of low carbon transport.


LowCVP job vacancy - Programme Manager, Low Carbon Vehicles & Fuels

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) is recruiting a programme manager. The person appointed will work closely with members to develop and deliver research, policy proposals and practical initiatives to accelerate the market for lower carbon vehicles and fuels and create opportunities for UK companies. The position is based in Westminster, but the LowCVP encourages a flexible approach to home working and some travel across UK is expected in working directly with members.

England to test charge-as-you-drive motorways

Highways England has announced plans to test wireless power-transfer technology that it hopes to build under the country's motorways and major A roads. The government agency has already completed a feasibility study and is now asking companies to tender bids to host off-road trials.


Eight cities short-listed for low emission taxi £20m competition.

The Government has announced a shortlist of eight cities that are to share part of a £20 million fund to increase the number of plug-in taxis. The potential schemes will be the subjects of a government-backed feasibility study into providing greener transport opportunities in their area.

Moving to Green Vehicles in Scotland – Funding and Running: A ‘How To’ conference for Public and Private Sector Fleets

The ‘Moving to Green Vehicles in Scotland' conference is for Public and Private Sector Fleets and takes place in Edinburgh on Tuesday, 22nd September. It will explain the government-funded financial support available for low emission vehicles in Scotland, continually developing infrastructure and give an understanding of how to plan for and deliver the use of low emission vehicles within fleets.
