The end of 2003 saw the publication of three major studies outlining future energy routes and vehicle technology options that will influence the work of LowCVP and UK Government policy. In November, the Department for Transport published Ricardo Engineers Ltd’s update of their 2002 “Carbon to Hydrogen” study, commissioned by the Department. The EU Joint Research Council, CONCAWE, and EUCAR completed an authoritative well-to-wheel analysis of future automotive fuels and powertrains in a European context, published in November 2003. As part of DfT’s contribution to delivering the Energy White Paper, E4tech have conducted an assessment of the energy implications of the hydrogen economy and use of biomass-based fuels in transport (Dec 2003).
